Forensic Case

We were asked by the technical support department of a large metropolitan council to examine a laptop that showed inappropriate image names.

Before we were called in, the internal audit team decided to browse through the suspects' PC then copied image files onto their own systems and followed URLs to see if they were "live".

Now there were internal audit machines with inappropriate material on them as well.

Once in our possession, we were able to prove that the suspect had downloaded this material onto his work laptop, even though he claimed it had arrived there from his home machine when he synched the two systems.

He was disciplined and dismissed.

Forensic Readiness review

Most clients have well defined disaster recovery and incident response plans in place but, even in these cases, we find that the plans are either not appropriate to the nature of the incident or simply do not have a sufficient degree of forensic awareness or process built into them, resulting in actions being taken on digital systems that undermines the objectives, and success, of the response.

Preserving Digital Evidence

Digital evidence is very fragile and can be easily destroyed. Certain steps must be taken to ensure that the evidence is preserved and evidential continuity is maintained.

Forensic Imaging

Forensic imaging is the term used when a bit for bit copy is taken of every byte on the hard disk or digital medium used. The computer forensic expert then works on this image, preserving the original data untouched.

We are computer forensic experts in all aspects of imaging data from every type of media and in the full analysis of that data to give clearly understandable reports for court or tribunal.
